Men’s Soccer Blanks NGCSU 1-0

The win marks the second shutout of the season for Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Kevin O'Donnell (Prince George, Va., Prince George )scored his fifth goal of the season last night to give Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer the 1-0 victory over North Georgia College and State University  (NGCSU) at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. Queens improves to 5-1-1 overall and stays at 2-0-1 in Conference Carolinas action.  NGCSU falls to 5-2-4 overall.

Andrew Groff (Charlotte, N.C., Gaston Day School)passed the ball to Heath Cox (Lubbock, Tex., Monterey )to start the play. Cox was able to find O'Donnell coming down the left side line. O'Donnell collected, took his defender on inside the 18 yard box, beat him is a strong cut back and hit the far side for the goal. O'Donnell scored about midway through the first half, 23:22, in what would be the only goal of the game.

Queens and NGCSU were even on shots with Queens holding a slight lead, 17-14, but where the difference came was on corner kicks. The Royals were able to steal six from the visitors and limited them to just one.

The shutout marks Dan Williams (Kingwood, Tex., Kingwood)first of the season. Williams made four saves in the win. The Saints goalie Rade Tanaskovic made two saves in the game.

O'Donnell led the Royals with four shots. NGCSU Terry Gibbs recorded the game high with six.

Queens travels to Gaffney, S.C., on Saturday, Sept. 27, to face Limestone College at 4pm in Conference Carolinas play. The Saints travel to Lander University on Sat., Sept. 27, for a 3pm kickoff.
