CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In the second meet of the season, Queens University of Charlotte's men's cross country found a good stride and captured the title at the Asics/Winthrop Invitational in the garnet division. Queens scored 18 points, 20 points lower than the second place team Benedict.
In the 8k run Queens averaged 25:12.00 and all five of the players that scored for the Royals placed within the top 10.
Sophomore MIchael Crouch (Yucca Valley, Calif., Yucca Valley) led the race with his time of 24:16. Fellow junior Oscar Ogwaro (Los Angeles, Calif., Woodrow Wilson) was 10 second behind Crouch. In the last meet Ogwaro brought home the individual title. Not to be left out, the last two juniors Futsum Mebrathu (Phoenix, Ariz., North) crossed third with his run of 25:07 and 2007 All-American Ryan Connelly (Hillsborough, N.C., Orange) earned fifth with a time of 25:44. Sophomore Marius Koksvik (Tingvoll, Norway, Tingvoll) was the last Royals runner to count for the team score with his fifth place finish, 26.27.
In addition to the five scoring runners, three other Royals ran in the invitational. Sophomore Devin Kelley (Litchfield, N.H., Campbell) placed 10th and two freshmen Jeffery Donohue (Jordan, N.Y., Jordan-Elbridge)and Matthew Trivette (Ronda, N.C., East Wilkes)placed 13th and 14th, respectively.
The Royals will race again on October 3 in the Highland Dual in Valle Crucis, N.C.
