Chad Pinnick (Satellite Beach, Fla., Satellite )notched the first goal of the game with his head to finish a corner and Kevin O'Donnell (Prince George, Va., Prince George )used his head to finish the second Queens University of Charlotte goal in the 2-1 victory over Saint Andrews Presbyterian College on Monday night at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The 2-1 victory extends a Queens winning streak to four and improves the Royals to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action. Saint Andrews falls to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.
The Royals dominated the game, playing strong passing soccer around much of the Knights midfield and defense. The Royals out-shot the Saints 9-3 in the first half. Saint Andrews made four saves in the first half.
Aaron Doyle (Knoxville, Tenn., Farragut) took a corner kick in the 53rd minute of play and earned his first assist of the season as Pinnick connected for his third goal of the season.
Queens goalie Jake O'Donnell (Prince George, Va., Prince George )did not give up a goal for 163 minutes until Saint Andrews evened the score with a breakaway goal by Justin Garton with a little over 17 left to play.
The next seven minutes was a back and forth contest with Queens finding the advantage in the 11th minute. K. O'Donnell finished a wide cross from Heath Cox (Lubbock, Tex., Monterey )to score what would be the game-winner. The goal is K. O'Donnell's fourth and Cox's second assist.
The Royals defense packed it in for the remaining 11 minutes and held on for the 2-1 Conference Carolinas victory.
K. O'Donnell led Queens with four shots, the team totaled 17 in the 90 minute contest while holding the Knights to just nine total shots. Keeper J. O'Donnell made six saves in the contest and Knights goalie made two, though the team had a total of six.
Queens hosts Anderson University on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 4:30pm.
