MISENHEIMER, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer held a 2-0 lead over Pfeiffer University at the half in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament Tuesday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C. Unfortunately for Queens, the half time score was a not a good indicator of who would win the game. The Falcons came back from the 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in overtime and end the Royals season.
Kevin O'Donnell (Prince George, Va., Prince George ) put the Royals up 1-0 in the first 30 minutes of the contest by chipping a pass from Chad Pinnick (Satellite Beach, Fla., Satellite )over goalie Alex Moreno's head. Eleven minutes later O'Donnell scored the second goal of the game, this time with an assist from Patrick Morgan (Iron Station, N.C., East Lincoln ).
The two goals were a result from aggressive play by the Royals up top and making sure the Falcons could not get quality clears out of their end of the field.
Queens out-shot the Falcons 3-2 in the half and tallied two corner kicks to their one.
The script was flipped in the second half. Seventy-seven minutes into the game Bradly Sisk finished a cross from Chris Venable with his head to cut the Royals lead in half. Ten minutes later Kash Knight scored the game-evening goal, forcing the game to OT.
At the end of regulation, Pfeiffer held the lead offensively with eight shots, while Queens tallied five.
Midway through the 10 minute overtime period Renato Barbosa scored the golden goal for the host team, winning the game and ending the Royals season.
Queens ends the season with a record of 9-7-1 overall and 5-4-1 in league play. Pfeiffer advances to the semifinals with a record of 10-9-0 overall and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas.
