Falcons Shutout Queens Men’s Soccer 1-0

Royals host No. 20 Lees-McRae on Oct. 15

MISENHEIMER, N.C.- What looked to be a slow game, turned in to be a ferocious and physical game at N.E. Lefko field Saturday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C.  The Royals of Queens University of Charlotte faced the Falcons of Pfeiffer University in the Conference Carolinas match.  The Falcons (5-6-1/ 4-1 CC) took home the win over the Royals (6-4-1/2-3-1 CC) with a lone goal from a penalty kick.

The only goal of the game came when the Falcons drew a foul inside the box and sophomore team captain Nick Brindley (Northamptonshire, England) knocked the ball past Queens' goalkeeper Dan Williams (Kingwood, Tex., Kingwood) on the penalty kick. The score remained 1-0 with the Pfeiffer advantage at the end of the half.

Queens' offense was slow during the first half being outshot 10-1.

The final period could only be described as intense and physical.  No additional scoring was tallied in the last 45 minutes of play, but 34 whistles blew for fouls and three yellow cards were handed out. The physicality of play resulted in a total of 48 fouls throughout the match. The Royals extra offensive pressure in the second half resulted in eight shots and forced Pfeiffer's goalkeeper Alex Moreno (Huntersville, NC) to come off his line and punch the ball away on several crosses and corner kicks in the last three minutes of play.

Moreno was credited with the shutout and made five saves during the 90 minutes of play.  Williams also made five saves for the Royals.

Kevin O'Donnell (Prince George, Va., Prince George ) and Alvaro Guerra (East Point, Ga., Woodward Academy) led the Royals with three shots each.

Queens hosts No. 20 Lees-McRae College on Oct. 15 at 7:30pm.
