Royals' Spencer Ross Honored

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 16, 2003) -

Ross, a 5'11" guard out of Chesapeake, Va., averaged 23.9 points per game last year and was the all-time single season leading scorer at Queens in a year when the Royals went 29-4 and reached the NCAA Division II Final Four. Ross has also been named to the Preseason All-CVAC team.

"I am pleased that Spencer has been recognized as a Preseason All-American. He is certainly a very special player," said Queens head coach Barclay Radebaugh. "Spencer is the first to say that team goals and team success are the driving forces of this program, not individual goals."

Ross was sixth on the NCAA Division II scoring leaders list and second in the CVAC. He was named First-Team All-CVAC, First-Team All-East Region in the National Association of Basketball Coaches poll, and Second Team All-East Region in the Daktronics All-American poll.

Ross also finished 2002-2003 with one of the top free-throw percentages in the nation (87%), which was good enough for second in the CVAC and No. 26 in the NCAA. Averaging 5.48 assists and 2.33 steals per game, Ross finished second and third, respectively, in these CVAC categories.

Street & Smith's has named Queens senior Spencer Ross a NCAA Division II Second Team All-America in its 2003-04 college basketball national preview.
