THE SHORT STORY
Queens University of Charlotte was shut out 2-0 by visiting Stetson University in ASUN action tonight at The Stick. The Royals were held to four hits as they were shut out for the fourth time this season. The season series is tied at 2-2, with Queens taking the series in Florida 2-1.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Royals in the bottom of the first attempted to get something going with two outs when
Anibal Rivera dropped down a bunt single to third. He then advanced to second when
Thomas Mathay was walked. Both runners would move up 90 feet off a wild pitch, but a lineout to third ended the inning.
- Queens would get a single from
Justin Hudson in the second and another from Rivera in the third, but were unable to push either runner across the plate.
- Both teams went scoreless for the first five innings, and then in the top of the sixth, Stetson took a 1-0 lead off a home run and then added another run off an RBI single up the middle to push the lead to 2-0 before the inning ended.
- After not getting a runner on in the sixth or the seventh, Hunter Honeycutt doubled to left field with one down in the top of the eighth, looking to get something going for Queens. Unfortunately, the Royals' threat ended on a lineout to third for the second time tonight.
- With the Royals down to their final three outs,
Karter Wong walked with one out in the ninth. He was then lifted for pinch runner
Mitchell Basterrechea. The Hatters would get back-to-back outs to end the game and secure the 2-0 win.
