Royals Roll Past Stetson, Earn First ASUN Victory

DELAND, FLA. — Queens earned its first ASUN win of the season Sunday afternoon, sweeping Stetson, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-22), at the Edmunds Center. The Royals improved to 5-11 overall and 1-2 in conference play, earning their fifth consecutive win over the Hatters in the all-time series with a solid offensive performance while holding the Hatters to a .045 hitting percentage.

Elizabeth Layson led Queens with 15 kills, while Emma Norris added eight kills and four total blocks. Callie DeSchryver contributed four kills, three aces and 10 digs, while Megan Kelly finished with 15 assists and two aces.

  • Queens took control early in the opening set, building a 19-15 advantage before closing out the frame, 25-17. Layson provided five kills in the set, while the Royals finished with 12 kills and hit .205 as a team.
  • The Royals carried their momentum into the second set, opening a 15-7 lead and maintaining control throughout. Queens closed the set on a Stetson attack error to take another 25-17 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
  • Stetson jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the third set before Queens rallied to even the score at 14-14. The Royals continued to battle, taking a 23-18 lead before the Hatters cut the margin to one at 23-22. Norris answered with a kill to make it 24-22, and Kelly followed with a service ace to seal the sweep, 25-22.

POSTMATCH COMMENTS
"We did a good job today executing our game plan and earning our first conference win of the season," said Queens head coach Matt Stolz. "It's great to get that first conference win, and we're excited to carry this momentum into next weekend."
