Sharn Muffett Named Queens Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Kelly McQuilkin announces the addition of Sharn Muffett to her staff as assistant coach. Muffett, a former Queens goalkeeper, joins the Royals after spending the last two years as an assistant coach with the University of South Florida women's lacrosse team.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Sharn back home to Queens and to Charlotte," McQuilkin stated. "She brings excitement, passion, eagerness, and a wealth of knowledge back to this program. Sharn leads with integrity, humility, and a competitive drive that has always served her well. We can't wait to get started and to take this lacrosse program to new heights."

Muffett and the Bulls wrapped their inaugural season of competition with a 13-5 overall record this past spring. They went 4-2 in AAC play, falling to JMU in the AAC Championship. Muffett oversaw goalkeeper coaching and development for USF, designing and conducting specialized training sessions, analyzing game film, and implementing personalized development plans to enhance goalkeeper performance. She also helped with operation and event planning, provided support in the areas of communications and social media, and coordinated community service and volunteer initiatives that connected the program with the greater Tampa Bay area.

"It's an incredible honor to return to Queens as an assistant coach," Muffett commented. "This program and university helped shape who I am during my time as a student-athlete, and I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to give back in a new way. My passion has always been helping others reach their full potential by leading with purpose, serving selflessly, and utilizing my gifts, always seeking to make a difference. I'm excited to pour into this team, this staff, and this community as we take on this next chapter of Division I lacrosse together."

Muffett closed her collegiate playing career as a Royal, transferring into the program ahead of the final year of Division II competition, 2021-22. Queens closed the DII era plowing through the regular season without a single loss to secure their seventh SAC Regular Season Championship. They then went on to secure their eighth SAC Tournament Championship before reaching the NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse Final Four. Queens finished the year with a 21-1 record. Muffett competed in 18 games to record nine wins in goal. She was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

The next season, Muffett helped lead the Royals into their Division I era as they completed their inaugural ASUN season with a 10-8 record and a spot in the semifinal round of the ASUN Championship. Muffett played 17 games in goal, totaling 99 saves and recording her 100th career save at Queens. The goalkeeper also ranked top three nationally in save percentage and GAA in her final collegiate season.

Before joining the Royals, Muffett attended Jacksonville University, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in communication. In those four years, the Dolphins won four ASUN Conference Championships and made three NCAA Championships appearances, reaching the second round in 2021.

Muffett began playing lacrosse at an early age back home in Australia, competing for Wanneroo-Joondalup Lacrosse Club. Representing Western Australia at the U15, U18, and Senior levels, the decorated goalkeeper garnered accolades such as MVP honors and her spot as a 3x All-Star team goalkeeper. In 2015, Muffett competed in the FIL Rathbones U19 Women's Lacrosse World Cup as a keeper for Team Australia. She was also recognized as the U18 Tournament MVP, leading her team to a National Championship in 2016.

Muffet holds a master's degree from Queens' Knight School of Communication.
