CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team put up a strong fight in Tuesday's doubleheader at The Stick but fell short in both games against Campbell, dropping Game 1 by a narrow 2-1 margin before falling 8-6 in Game 2.
GAME ONE: Campbell 2, Queens 1
- In a tightly contested opener, Queens and Campbell were locked in a scoreless battle through the first three innings. The Camels broke the deadlock in the fourth, plating two runs to take a 2-0 lead.
- Queens responded in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the deficit to 2-1 on an RBI single from Makala Strickland.
- The Royals' pitching staff held Campbell in check for the remainder of the game, limiting them to just five hits. However, Queens struggled to find a timely hit late, stranding runners and ultimately falling just short.
GAME TWO: Campbell 8, Queens 6 (9 innings)
- The Royals jumped out to an early lead, scoring in each of the first two innings. Queens capitalized on opportunities at the plate, including a clutch bases-clearing double from Makala Strickland in the sixth inning that drove in three runs, sparking a four-run rally.
- Campbell responded, scoring in five different innings and tallying 15 hits. The Camels' offense was led by Cadan Brinkman, who launched a home run and added an RBI.
- Queens' pitching staff battled throughout the game, with Jordan Dunn starting and throwing five innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out four. Taylor Jones and the bullpen tried to hold off Campbell's bats, but the visitors tacked on insurance runs late to secure the win in extra innings.
