Softball Battles in Saturday ASUN Doubleheader Against Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team put up a strong fight in both games of Saturday's ASUN doubleheader against Jacksonville, putting up solid performances from the bullpen and at the plate. Despite their efforts, the Royals came up short, falling 9-4 in Game 1 and 5-2 in Game 2.

GAME ONE: Jacksonville 9, Queens 4

  • Queens rallied late in the opener, putting together a strong offensive push in the fifth inning. Trailing 9-0, the Royals loaded the bases, and Taylor Jones stepped up with a two-RBI single to spark the comeback. Olivia Thornton followed with another RBI single, trimming the deficit to four.
  • The Royals added another run in the sixth on an RBI from Caroline Johnson, but Jacksonville responded in the bottom half of the inning to maintain its lead.
  • Offensively, Lauren Byrd had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Thornton collected two hits in four at-bats, adding an RBI, while Jones drove in two runs with a key base hit in the fifth.

GAME TWO: Jacksonville 5, Queens 2

  • Queens came out strong in Game 2, striking first on a solo home run by Lindsey DeRoeck to give the Royals an early lead. Lauren Byrd added an RBI bunt single in the third, keeping Queens on top.
  • The Royals' pitching staff kept them in the game, led by a dominant relief performance from Jordan Dunn, who threw 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five.
  • At the plate, DeRoeck reached base in all three of her plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a home run, an RBI, and a walk. Byrd continued her strong day, recording two hits in three at-bats and driving in a run, while Jones added two hits and a walk to round out a solid offensive performance.
