Queens Opens Season with Strong Win Over Le Moyne, Battles Hard Against Syracuse

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Queens University of Charlotte softball team kicked off their 2025 season on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a dominant opening win against Le Moyne by a 9-2 score before battling Syracuse in the finale, falling 0-3.

GAME ONE NOTABLES

  • After a scoreless first inning, Queens broke through in the second, plating three runs to take an early lead. They followed up with two more in the third to extend their advantage to 5-0. Le Moyne responded with its only two runs in the fifth inning, but Queens put the game out of reach with a four-run outburst in the sixth.
  • Freshman Olivia Thornton led the Royals' offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Caroline Johnson added a key bases-clearing double, driving in three runs. Natalie Windham also contributed with an RBI double as part of a 1-for-3 performance.
  • On the mound, Queens' pitching staff was dominant, surrendering only two hits across seven innings. Jordan Dunn earned the win with a solid start, allowing no earned runs and striking out six. Kenzie Forrester was credited with the save in the circle. 
  • The Royals' defense was sharp as well, turning a double play and overcoming three errors.

GAME TWO NOTABLES

  • Queens fell 3-0 to Syracuse on Saturday afternoon, held to two hits on the afternoon. 
  • Both teams remained scoreless through five innings before Syracuse broke through with a three-run sixth inning. 
  • The Royals' offensive highlights came from Lindsey DeRoeck and Taylor Jones, who each recorded a hit.
  • Abby Craver delivered a solid outing in the circle, going six innings while allowing just one earned run on six hits. She struck out two and walked one batter.
