CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte has announced the hiring of Roger Peluso as the new head coach of the Royals' men's volleyball program this morning. Peluso, a veteran coach with more than two decades of experience across the collegiate, club, and high school levels, takes the reins as Queens enters its third season in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA).
"We are thrilled to welcome such a high-caliber coach to Queens to lead our men's volleyball program," Queens Director of Athletics
Cherie Swarthout stated. "Roger has a proven track record for developing high-performing athletes, and we are all looking forward to cheering the Royals on as he takes the program to new heights in this new era.
Peluso joins Queens after serving as head assistant coach at George Mason University, where he helped guide the Patriots to an 11-0 undefeated home record, an EIVA runner-up finish, and a final national ranking of No. 16 in 2024. During his tenure, eight Patriots received NCAA or AVCA honors, including All-America selections, while four signed professional contracts to compete internationally.
Prior to his time at George Mason, Peluso made history at Webber International University, leading the Warriors to their first-ever AAC Conference Championship and NAIA National Tournament appearance in 2023. His players collected multiple conference honors, including MVP, Freshman of the Year, and Champions of Character recognition.
Peluso's impact extends beyond the collegiate level. On the club circuit, he has been named AVCA Boys' National Coach of the Year and consistently produced championship teams while maintaining a 100% college placement rate for his athletes. His teams have captured multiple national titles and earned recognition as one of Florida's premier programs.
At the high school level, Peluso has coached both boys' and girls' programs to state championships, earning numerous Coach of the Year honors from the AVCA, Miami Herald, and Florida Dairy Farmers Association. He has also been a member of the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program coaching staff since 1998, contributing to the growth of numerous athletes at the national and international levels.
Peluso expressed his enthusiasm for this next chapter with the Royals. "Excited is an understatement to join the Royals family and lead the men's volleyball program into a new era of passion, purpose, and performance," Peluso said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity, proud to wear this crown, and fired up to build something special with this group of student-athletes."
Peluso attended Long Island University for undergraduate school, earning a bachelor's degree in secondary education. He also holds a master's degree in physical education from Hofstra University.
