Queens Baseball Rounds Out 2025 Coaching Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte head baseball coach Jake Hendrick is pleased to announce the 2024-2025 coaching staff, as made official on Thursday afternoon. Queens returns incremental coaches in Jake Hendrick, James Cullinane, Luke Bay, and Masen Schechterle while adding Conrad Felks Jr., Dominic Pilolli, and Matthew Corlew to the staff. Fans can read more about each coach and their journey to the Queen City.

Jake Hendrick (Head Coach)
Hendrick is coming off his first season at the helm of the Royals program where he guided Queens to a 14-41 season, and 10-20 mark in ASUN play. Despite the record, the Royals found success on both sides of the ball as the offense broke the single-season home run record while the pitching staff struck out the second most batters in a single season in program history. Charlotte native Dillon Lewis became the second player to be selected in the MLB Draft after going in the 13th round to the New York Yankees.

Hendrick joined the Royals following a season at Austin Peay. In his lone season with the Governors, Hendrick bolstered a pitching staff that fanned 516 batters which was only the second time in program history that the pitching staff struck out at least 500 batters. Hendrick began his collegiate coaching career at Northeastern State University where he helped the River Hawks set a program record in strikeouts. NSU turned in the most wins since 2002 while playing the seventh-toughest schedule in Division 2. The MIAA Coach of the Year led the development of MLB draft picks in Ryan Helsley, Ben Strahm, and Nic Swanson.

James Cullinane (Hitting Coach/Recruiting Coordinator)
In his first season overseeing the Royals offense, Queens broke through setting the program's single-season home run record with 89 home runs. The Royals hit .266 on the season with 91 doubles, six triples, and 89 blasts while also swiping 71 bases. Cullinane played a key role in developing Dillon Lewis, a 13th-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft to the New York Yankees. Under his direction, Lewis broke the program's single-season home runs, hits, runs, and RBIs records. Freshman phenom Jake Barbour earned All-Freshman nods after blasting the most home runs in a single season by a rookie since Dillon Lewis.

"We are excited about what James brings to the program daily," said Hendrick. "He is an invaluable member of the Queens Baseball program, and we have already felt his impact on the offensive side of the ball. It should be even more fun in year two."

Luke Bay (Pitching Coach)
Bay returns to the Queen City to oversee the Royals pitching staff for the second season. Under his direction, the Queens pitching staff struck out the second most batters in a single season in program history. Kansas State transfer Landry Jurecka led the charge striking out a team-high 75 batters, a mark that was second most in a single season by a Royals pitcher. Out of the bullpen, Joseph Rodriguez broke the program's single season appearances record with 28.

"I am excited about year two with Coach Bay working with our pitchers," said Hendrick. "I expect to see a lot of good things happen on the mound this year under his leadership and passion for player development."

Conrad Felks Jr. (Director of Recruiting)
A native of South Carolina, Felks Jr. joins the Royals following six seasons on staff at Coastal Carolina under former head coach Gary Gilmore. During that span, the Chanticleers made five NCAA Tournament Regional appearances and won a pair of Sun Belt Tournament titles. Felks Jr. started as a student manager before transitioning to a graduate assistant role where he assisted in recruiting efforts and helped increase the social media presence of the team's Instagram and TikTok accounts.

"Coach Gilmore could not have said more positive things about Conrad and his work ethic and organization," said Hendrick. "I look forward to seeing the impact he makes at Queens after spending the last six years at such a well-respected program as Coastal Carolina."

Dominic Pilolli (Director of Baseball Operations)
Former Charlotte, NC State, and Wright State standout Dominic Pilolli joins the Royals after assisting the Wright State Baseball offense and pitching staff last season. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Pilolli started his career at Charlotte in 2020 where he started all 17 games and hit a team-best .403 which was fourth-best in the C-USA and the highest average among all league freshmen and sixth-best among freshmen nationwide. Pilolli earned Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American nods before transferring to NC State. With the nationally ranked Wolfpack, Pilolli made 69 appearances across two seasons and hit .261 with nine doubles, three triples, and nine home runs.

"We are super excited about the addition of Dom," said Hendrick. "He is young and hungry to grow a career in baseball. Dom is very well rounded, and I expect him to make a tremendous impact on and off the field. His playing career will resonate with our players as he was a high level player at Charlotte, NC State, and Wright State."

Matthew Corlew (Graduate Assistant)
Lake Worth, Florida native Matthew Corlew wrapped up his playing career last season after spending one season in Charlotte. The Eastern Kentucky transfer made an immediate impact on the Royals program starting 50 games and hitting .236 with 11 doubles, two triples, and seven home runs. Corlew became the first player in program history to hit for the cycle after doing so against Niagara on February 25, 2024. Corlew was a key member of a Royals offense that broke the program's single-season home run record.

"It will be great to have Matthew helping on the staff after a year in the program," said Hendrick. "Year two means guys know what to expect, but leadership in the clubhouse is important and those who played last year can help everyone hit the ground running. I look forward to seeing how Matthew positively impacts this team."

Masen Schechterle (Student Manager)
A member of the Royals program since 2022, Schechterle transitioned to a key student manager role before last season. The Phoenix, Arizona native has assisted in multiple roles, including operations, facility setup, and analytics assistance. Schechterle's involvement on the staff last season helped the Royals break the home run record while striking out the second most batters in a single season. Queens found all of that success while scheduling three D1 Baseball Top 25 opponents, including Tennessee, NC State, and South Carolina.

"Mason is a Swiss army knife because he does it all," said Hendrick. "Mason brings awesome energy, great effort, and has a great enthusiasm to be around the team, so we are thrilled to have him back."
