CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team is excited to unveil their 2024 season schedule on Wednesday afternoon. The schedule features four tournaments prior to Atlantic Sun play, with 13 home matches inside the Levine Center.
"During the preseason we are fortunate to compete against many regional opponents from the CAA, Big South, SoCon, MEAC, and A-10 conferences," Head Coach Hannah Long stated.
The season kicks off at the end of August with a trip to Wilmington, N.C. to face East Carolina, Loyola University Maryland, and host UNC Wilmington in the Royals' first of four tournaments. Queens will next head closer to home to Wofford to face the host Wofford, Presbyterian, and Campbell in a three-match slate starting on Sep. 6.
After, the Royals will host their annual Queens Fall Classic inside the Levine Center on the weekend of Sep. 13. The Royals will go up against William & Mary for the first time in program history before facing nearby foes Davidson and USC Upstate the following day.
Finishing up the tournament slate will be the Queen City Invitational co-hosted with UNC Charlotte. The Royals will face North Carolina Central on Sep. 20 before battling East Tennessee State in the teams' first meeting since 1997.
"Starting the season with tournaments at UNC Wilmington and Wofford we will have the opportunity to face two teams, Wofford and East Carolina who each competed in their respective postseasons last year," Long added. "I'm particularly excited to have two preseason weekends at home this fall. First, our annual Fall Classic is highlighted by regional foes Davidson, USC Upstate, and William & Mary. Then we finish the preseason co-hosting the Queens City Invitational with UNC Charlotte. These tournaments will be a great opportunity for Queens' supporters as well as fans of volleyball to see a high level play in the Levine Center. These tournaments will help prepare us for the always-challenging ASUN conference regular season."
Queens will get conference play underway with a road trek to the Sunshine State starting on Sep. 27. The Royals will face reigning ASUN Tournament Champions Florida Gulf Coast before heading to DeLand to go up against the Hatters of Stetson on Sep. 28.
The Royals will stay on the road to face new ASUN members West Georgia in Carrolton, Ga. and then head to Nashville, Tenn. to face Lipscomb to kick off October. This will mark the third all-time meeting between the Royals and the Bisons.
The next four matches will be played in the Queen City starting on Oct. 11. Queens will face two Florida ASUN foes in North Florida and Jacksonville before kicking off the following weekend with the two Kentucky teams — Eastern Kentucky and Bellarmine. Last season, Queens battled Bellarmine to five sets in Louisville but ultimately fell to the Knights, 3-2.
On Oct. 25, the Royals will head to Arkansas to face the Sugar Bears. The teams are tied in the all-time series 1-1, with Queens taking a 3-0 victory last season. Next on Oct. 27, Queens and North Alabama will face off in an early afternoon match.
To start off the November slate, Queens will head back home to host Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast starting on Nov. 1. Another road trip to Florida will be next on the docket, facing the Dolphins and Ospreys of Jacksonville and North Florida on Nov. 8-9.
In their final week of the regular season, Queens will face the new Division I members West Georgia Wolves once again — this time at home. The midweek tilt will be followed by a final match against Austin Peay inside the Levine Center on Nov. 16.
"We are looking forward to an exciting 2024 with our sights on achieving new successes at the NCAA Division I level," Long finished.
