ATLANTA, GA - Queens University of Charlotte bounced back after dropping the opening set to defeat Florida A&M, 3–1 (21–25, 25–14, 25–19, 25–20), on Saturday morning inside GSU Sports Arena. The win improves the Royals to 5–2 on the year, while the Rattlers fall to 1–5.
Florida A&M struck first with a sharp .359 hitting percentage in set one, using 15 kills and six team blocks to pull away late for a 25–21 win. Queens responded in dominant fashion, holding the Rattlers to -.148 in set two while producing 14 kills of their own, pulling away for a 25–14 result to even the match.
The third set was tightly contested with six ties before Queens surged late. Balanced offense from Mia McMillen, Emma Norris, and Elizabeth Layson guided the Royals to a 25–19 victory. Queens carried that momentum into the fourth, racing out to a 7–1 lead and fending off a late FAMU push before sealing the match, 25–20.
Callie DeSchryver led all players with 16 kills on .438 hitting, while McMillen added 11 kills, 21 digs, and three aces. Norris chipped in nine kills and six blocks, Layson posted eight kills, and Lauren Stiles finished with seven kills and three blocks. Setters Megan Kelly and Tyler Peluso combined for 43 assists, with Kelly also recording five aces and 10 digs.
As a team, Queens tallied 61 kills, hit .225, and totaled 10 service aces and nine blocks. Farooq paced the Rattlers with 12 kills on .579 hitting and nine blocks, while LaDonna Trantham added nine kills and two aces. Florida A&M finished at .143 overall after its hot start in the opening set.
"Great team performance this weekend with lots of different people continuing to provide point scoring," Head Coach Matt Stolz said. "I was very impressed with our defense and blocking as a whole. We wanted to improve on our serving and we did just that. Lots of aces and scoring opportunities."
