Queens Hosts High Point and Radford Before Heading to Jacksonville for Three-Game Weekend Series

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team is set for a busy week of action beginning Tuesday, April 23rd at home against High Point before hosting Radford on Wednesday. The first pitch for both games are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Following the midweek tilts, the Royals will travel down to the Sunshine State to take on Jacksonville for a three-game ASUN series.

QUEENS ROYALS (11-28 overall, 7-11 ASUN)
  • Queens is looking to bounce back after they sufferd a tough 2-1 series loss to Kennesaw State over the weekend. The Royals fell in game one 6-5 after the Owls completed a comeback in the late innings. Queens took game one of the doubleheader on Saturday 15-5 before losing the final game 11-8 with the Owls scoring three runs in the ninth inning.
  • A significant contributor to the Royals recent offensive success has been long ball as Queens has blasted 23 home runs over their last seven games. In the second game of the weekend, the Royals blasted their 66th home run of the season to break the program record for most home runs in a season.
  • The home run party kept the Royals in second in the ASUN in homers this season. Queens ranks 26th in the country in home runs.
  • Dillon Lewis has been the offensive spark for the Royals as the junior is hitting a team-high .401 with a team-best 12 doubles and 15 home runs. Lewis enters Tuesday night on a 24-game on-base streak which is a Division 1 program record. Lewis currently ranks third in the ASUN in batting average and home runs while also ranking inside the top ten in doubles and runs scored. With 15 home runs, Lewis is one short of tying the program record for home runs in a season set by Nick Brassington in 2022.
  • Freshman Jake Barbour has been scorching hot plate at the plate recently. The Raleigh native is riding a 10-game hitting streak. Over that 10-game stretch, the second basemen is hitting .428 with four home runs, a double, a triple, and 11 RBIs.
  • Since entering the starting lineup in the Lipscomb series, junior Andrew McDermott is hitting .428 with 12 runs scored, two doubles, five home runs, and seven RBIs. Against Kennesaw State, the outfielder went 4-for-9 at the plate with four runs scored and a RBI. McDermott currently leads the team in on-base percentage with an incredible .481 mark.
  • Senior outfielder Matthew Corlew has come into form at the plate for the Royals. Over the past seven games, Corlew is hitting .300 with seven runs scored, two doubles, a home run, and nine RBIs. Corlew is a threat with his speed on the base paths as his 10 stolen bases are second on the team behind Dillon Lewis.
  • Tyler Cotto has been a consistent offensive presence in the Royals lineup this season. The senior is hitting .286 on the year and sits third on the team with a .444 on-base percentage in part to a team-high 27 walks. Cotto has shown his power this season roping eight doubles and belting 10 home runs, both of which are second on the team.
  • On the mound, the Royals have struck out 256 batters, a mark that is fourth most in a single season in program history. Kansas State transfer Landry Jurecka leads the Royals with 55 strikeouts.
  • The pitching staff has struggled to prevent free base runners this season surrendering the most walks in the conference. Queens is averaging 7.1 walks per game and has issued 10 or more walks on 10 occasions.
HIGH POINT PANTHERS (21-18 overall, 10-4 BIG SOUTH)
  • High Point comes into Tuesday's matchup as the leaders of the Big South as they are winners of five consecutive weekend series. Over the weekend, the Panthers swept Presbyterian outscoring them 38-16.
  • Tuesday's matchup will be a rematch for the two ballclubs. High Point took the first matchup by a score of 6-3 on April 9. Queens jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Panthers scored four in the fourth inning to give them enough momentum to carry it to victory.
  • The Panthers boast one of the Big South's most efficient offenses. High Point ranks second in the league in batting average, second in home runs, first in doubles, second in slugging percentage and second in drawn walks.
  • Senior infielder Cael Chatnam leads the offensive attack for High Point. His .474 on-base percentage ranks fourth in the Big South, and he has smashed a team-high 10 home runs. Chatnam is looking to extend his six-game hitting streak. The Woodstock, Georgia native plays both ways for the Panthers as he has recorded 10.0 innings on the bump. Across those innings, Chatnam struck out eight batters, surrendered two walks, while allowing zero runs.
  • Raleigh native Adam Stuart is a steadying presence for High Point. The redshirt senior has recorded a hit in 27 games this season. He has recorded 21 extra-base hits including six home runs, 13 doubles, and two triples.
  • Noah Carter has been the leader out of the Panthers bullpen. Across 15 appearances, Carter has struck out 17 batters allowing just six walks and 10 runs.
  • High Point's defense has been incredibly efficient all season, ranking first in the league in fielding percentage and errors.
RADFORD HIGHLANDERS (11-26 overall, 3-9 BIG SOUTH)
  • Radford will come into the midweek action against the Royals looking to get back on track after dropping two of three to UNC Greensboro over the weekend. After winning game one 6-4, the Highlanders dropped the doubleheader on Saturday, including losing the finale 17-1.
  • Radford's offense is centered around the long ball as they are tied for third in the Big South with 40 home runs.
  • Junior outfielder Cameron Pittman leads the offensive attack for the Highlanders. Across 35 starts, he has amassed a team-leading .348 batting average, including six doubles, three triples and two home runs. Pittman has recorded multiple hits in 16 different games.
  • Zack Whitacre has been a steadying presence for Radford leading the team with 20 walks while also smashing six home runs, seven doubles, and two triples on the season. Whitacre has recorded a hit in five of his last six starts.
  • Graduate infielder Carson Bell is the Highlanders leading slugger belting a team-leading eight home runs on the year. He also slapped five doubles and legged out two triples on the year.
  • Freshman right-handed pitcher Jimmy Lovelace has made an impact in his first year on the bump. The Wake Forest, N.C. native has made 14 appearances where he has struck out seven while allowing just seven runs across 16.0 innings of work.
  • Radford boasts one of the Big South's best defenses ranking second in errors (36) and second in fielding percentage (.974).
 
 JACKSONVILLE DOLPHINS (18-20 overall, 12-6 ASUN)
  • The Dolphins bounced back last weekend with a 2-1 series victory over North Florida. They dominated game one by a score of 10-0, fell in extra innings in game two, and won 9-5 in the decisive rubber match on Sunday afternoon.
  • Jacksonville's offense is one of the most consistent in the entire ASUN at getting on base. The Dolphins rank fourth in batting average and second in on base percentage in the league.
  • Justin Nadeau leads the Dolphins at the plate hitting a team-high .395 with eight doubles and 36 runs scored.
  • Josh Steidl is swinging a hot bat hitting .300 across 34 starts. The junior has hit a team-high eight home runs and driven in 39 runs.
  • Richard Long has been a consistent starter on the mound for the Dolphins. The right-hander is 4-2 on the year with a 4.85 ERA across 52.0 innings of work.
  • Coming out of the bullpen, Isaac Williams has been a consistent arm late in the game appearing in a team-high 17 games. Williams hoists a 3.93 ERA and five saves.
