GAME 1 - QUEENS 5, FURMAN 1

  • Autumn Courtney started the game off with a bang as the sophomore reached her 200th strikeout of the season against the second batter of the inning. Furman would snag one hit in the inning but would fail to capitalize.
  • The Royals offense wasted no time in the bottom of the first inning as a leadoff walk drawn by Ashlyn Mickler and a Furman error put runners on first and second.
  • A four-pitch walk drawn by Kasidi Staley would load the bases before a passed ball from Emme Buzhardt would score Mickler.
  • Another walk would load the bases again before a fielder's choice scenario would score Kayla Smith, making the score 2-0 before the Paladins could suppress the damage.
  • It wouldn't be until the top of the third inning that the Paladins would push a runner home after an RBI single from Sylvia Burroughs, but it would be their only run scored of the game.
  • Queens found their next scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fourth as Taylor Miller, who came in relief for Buzhardt, would walk Natalie Windham and throw back-to-back wild pitches to advance her to third. After Mickler was hit by the pitch in her at-bat, Windham soon scored on the third wild pitch of the inning.
  • A sacrifice fly from Smith would score Mickler, putting the Royals advantage to 4-1 before the inning concluded.
  • Queens' final run would come from a three-hit inning led by Mickler, Smith, and Staley.
  • Courtney would snag her 16th win in the circle, piecing together seven strikeouts in the outing.

GAME 2 - QUEENS 4, FURMAN 3

  • Queens yet again found their way to the scoreboard first in the second game of the evening as a clutch two-run single from Haley Nelson brought Mickler and Staley home in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Furman would attack earlier in the nightcap as Chloe Fabio poked an RBI single to cut their deficit in half before Abby Craver and her defense would finish out the inning.
  • Furman would hold Queens scoreless in the bottom of the second, and tie the ballgame (2-2) in the top of the third after a fielder's choice allowed a runner to score.
  • Both squads would go scoreless in the following two innings before the Royals score two runs off two hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth. A Staley single up the middle and a throwing error from the centerfielder pushed a Queens run home and a bunt RBI single from Lindsey DeRoeck would push the score to 4-2.
  • The Paladins would threaten in the top of the seventh after Burroughs led off the inning with a single to left.
  • A runner-left-early call would give the Royals an out before Ansley Chiang grounded out. A single and a double from Furman would score a run to put the score at 4-3 before Jordan Dunn would come in to finish off the game with a strikeout. It would mark her second save of the season in the circle.
  • Craver would earn her third win of the season in the circle, striking out three batters in six and two-thirds innings pitched.
