Queens Heads to Muncie for First Round of MIVA Tournament

MUNCIE, IND. — In their first year in the league, the Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team heads to Muncie, Ind. to face the No. 1 Ball State Cardinals in the first round of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Tournament on Saturday, April 13 at 7:00 PM ET.

THE MATCHUP
Saturday's match will be the fifth all-time meeting between Queens and Ball State. Ball State leads the all-time series 4-0. In their most recent meeting on March 3, the Cardinals defeated Queens by a 3-0 decision (19-25, 21-25, 18-25). At the time, Ball State was ranked No. 12 in the nation. As of April 8, Ball State is now ranked No. 11 in the AVCA National Collegiate MVB Poll.

Ball State finished the regular season with a 20-9 overall record and a 13-3 mark in conference play, claiming sole possession of the MIVA regular-season Champion title.

Queens finished the regular season with a 9-20 record and a 2-14 conference play mark, and qualified for the tournament in its first season as a member of the MIVA.

"We are extremely excited to be participating in the MIVA tournament in our first year In the league," Coach Price said. "The MIVA is the oldest men's volleyball conference in the country and for this group in their first year to be able to add just a little bit to the history of that tournament Is it is a real honor and a privilege. We look forward to competing against a really good Ball State team to the very best of our abilities." 
 

QUICK FACTS BEFORE THE MATCH

  • As of late, freshman Chance Shampine has leaned into his role as a key offensive weapon for the Royals - with 221 total kills and an average of 2.7 kills per set on the season.
  • Jack Brinkman, veteran outside hitter for the Royals, led the team in kills with 273 on the year and averaged 3.1 kills per set.
  • Tinaishe Ndavazocheva of the Cardinals finished the regular season towards the top of the MIVA leaderboard with a .331 hitting percentage. The junior outside hitter has posted 296 kills this season and averages 4.05 per set. He was named to First-Team All-MIVA.
