Royals Begin Nine-Game Road Stretch at Davidson on Tuesday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team will begin a lengthy nine-game road stretch on Tuesday, April 2nd at Davidson College. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus. Following the midweek tilt, the Royals will return to conference play at Lipscomb University over the weekend.
 
QUEENS ROYALS (7-19 overall, 3-6 ASUN)
  • Queens is looking to continue to build momentum after their first conference series win over Florida Gulf Coast. The Royals outscored the Eagles 16-4 over the first two games before falling in the final game, 7-5.
  • Left fielder Dillon Lewis leads the offensive attack for the Royals. The junior has totaled a team-leading 41 hits on the season, including six home runs and six doubles. Across 23 games, the Charlotte native is batting a team-leading .371.
  • Will Budnick was crucial in the weekend series victory for the Royals. Across the three games, the junior hit 9-for-13 including a home run, two doubles, and four RBIs. In his 23 appearances the season, Budnick has smashed four home runs and five doubles.
  • Senior Tyler Cotto has managed to find the bases consistently as he leads the Royals with 21 walks and sits second with a .411 on-base percentage.
  • The Royals offense is built around the long ball as Queens is second in the ASUN with 40 home runs. Queens is ranked top 50 in the country in home runs and on pace to shatter their single-season home run record set back in 2022.
  • Queens has fanned 173 batters on the mound which is the fifth most in program history. The Royals are on pace to break their single season strikeouts record set back in 2022. Kansas State transfer Landry Jurecka leads the pitching staff with 40 strikeouts across 37.0 innings of work. The 40 strikeouts rank top 10 in the league.
  • Freshman Carson Magill has rounded into the number two role for the Royals. The right-hander is coming off a season-high eight innings of work, including a season-high five strikeouts over FGCU.
  • The Royals are looking to subside their fielding errors as they have given up the third most errors in the ASUN with 43. When Queens plays a clean defensive game, the Royals are 4-1 on the year.
  • The Royals have been aggressive on the base paths swiping the fourth most bags in the ASUN with 38. Queens is on pace to steal the second most bases in a single season in school history.
 
 DAVIDSON WILDCATS (13-14 overall, 2-1 ATLANTIC 10)
  • Davidson is coming off their first conference series of the season where they took two out of three games against Saint Joseph's over the weekend. The Wildcats will look to take that momentum into their midweek matchup against the Royals.
  • The Wildcats offense is one of the most efficient offenses in the Atlantic 10 with a .283 batting average that ranks third in the conference.
  • Junior Eli Putnam leads the Wildcats with 14 extra-base hits, including eight doubles and six home runs. Cabin John, Maryland native will look to extend his six-game hitting streak on Tuesday night.
  • Left-handed hitting sophomore Michael O'Shaugnessy has belted a team-leading seven home runs on the season for Davidson. Over the weekend, O'Shaugnessy belted two home runs in the series victory over Saint Joseph's
  • Matt Weber has been electric out of the bullpen for Davidson. Across 18.2 innings, he has fanned 22 batters while walking just nine batters.
  • Davidson's pitching staff has struggled with preventing free base runners as they have given up the most walks in the Atlantic 10 with 164 on the season.
 LIPSCOMB BISONS (7-19 overall, 3-6 ASUN)
  • Lipscomb is looking to build off their first conference series win of the season over North Alabama. On Sunday afternoon, the Bisons secured the series victory with an emphatic 15-2 win in seven innings.
  • The Bisons offense is built around the home run as they are third in the conference with 39 on the season.
  • Graduate infielder Trace Willhoite leads the Bisons with 18 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs, seven doubles and a triple. In the series clinching victory, Willhoite blasted two home runs with four RBIs in the dominating win for Lipscomb.
  • Senior Alex Vegera has also belted 10 home runs on the season while also adding three doubles to his extra-base total. Vegera has been perfect in the field for the Bisons committing zero errors on the season.
  • Mason Lundgrin has been a steadying presence for Lipscomb. He leads the team with an incredible .496 on-base-percentage which ranks fifth in the ASUN.
  • Right-handed pitcher Alex Brewer has been a consistent staple in the Bisons pitching rotation. Against North Alabama, Brewer tossed eight complete innings allowing just two runs, with seven strikeouts en route to being named ASUN Pitcher of the Week.
  • The Lipscomb pitching staff has struggled to find its form as they have an ERA of 8.16 on the season which is fourth worst in the ASUN.
  • The Bisons have been great in the field as they have committed 30 errors on the season which ranks second in the conference.
