Queens Welcomes Longwood to Curry Arena for the First Time Since 2003

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens University will host Longwood University in Curry Arena on Monday night, looking to rebound after a tough loss to Winthrop. Tipoff for the contest is set for 7 p.m. in Curry Arena and will be streamed live on ESPN Plus. During Monday's contest, the Royals women's basketball team will celebrate their four international student-athletes on International Day.

THE MATCHUPS 
The Royals welcome the Longwood Lancers to Curry arena on Monday for a non-conference women's basketball contest. This is the first time the two teams will meet since 2004, when Longwood earned a 71-60 victory over the Royals. Queens and Longwood are tied at 14-14 in the series history. The Royals have lost the last five meetings against the Lancers, with the last Royals victory dating back to 2002 in Farmville, Va. 

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (1-2 overall, 0-0 ASUN) 

  • Queens University enters this match up with a 1-2 record, showing moments of promise but also areas needing improvement.  

  • Offensively, the Royals average 63.0 points per game, with forward Jordyn Weaver leading the way at 11.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 51.7 percent from the field. Weaver has scored in double figures in all three games this season. 

  • Aylesha Wade adds 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, providing a scoring spark from the guard position. 

  • Queens has struggled with turnovers, averaging 18.7 per game, allowing 17 points off of turnovers. 

  • Defensively, the Royals allow 66.7 points per game, but continue to be aggressive, averaging 8.3 steals per contest. 

  • On the boards, Queens holds a slight advantage over opponents with a plus 1.7 rebounding margin, led by Weaver and Jermany Mapp, who contributes 5.3 rebounds per game.  

SCOUTING THE LANCERS (3-2 overall, 0-0 BIG SOUTH) 

  • The Lancers are coming off a narrow 64-68 loss to Georgia Southern but boast a strong season so far. Their balanced attack features four players averaging over 9 points per game, led by Kiki McIntyre (10.4 PPG, 3.6 RPG) and Malea Brown (10.2 PPG). Post presence Otaifo Esenabhalu leads the team in rebounding with 9.0 boards per game and is a dominant force in the paint with a 51.9 field goal percentage. 

  • Offensively, the Lancers average 73.6 points per game. Longwood is shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from three-point range, with an impressive 72 percent accuracy at the free-throw line.  

  • Defensively, Longwood is aggressive, allowing just 54.2 points per game while holding opponents to 35.5 percent shooting from the field. The Lancers excel at disrupting opposing offenses, averaging 15 steals per game, and their strong rebounding presence—led by Otaifo Esenabhalu with 9.0 rebounds per game—gives them a 6.6 margin on the boards. 

  • Longwood women's basketball team was chosen to finish seventh in the 2024-25 Big South Conference Preseason Poll. The Lancers received 30 points in the voting to finish ahead of Presbyterian (23 points, one first-place vote) and UNC Asheville (17). High Point was picked to repeat as Big South champions with 76 points in the voting including five first-place votes.
