SALISBURY, N.C. — The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's swimming teams earned dominant victories over Catawba at Johnson Pool in Salisbury on Friday, October 18. The men won 169-93, while the women secured a 185-77 victory.
"In our first away meet of the season, we swam against one of the quickest rising teams in the country in Catawba College," Senior Associate Head Coach Jon Lau said. "Our team was ready to go from the start knowing the challenge of competing as a visiting program. We had many individuals that posted season bests showing how well our month into competition has been going."
The meet began with wins in the 200-yard medley relays—Queens' women finished in 1:42.23 (Patterson, Huber, Zboran, Heck), and the men clocked 1:29.56 (Marz, Beladi, Wang, M. Dusa).
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Katherine Bailey placed third with 10:26.87, while Jack VanValkenburg took third on the men's side in 9:36.98. Maddie Foster claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.19) and added another win in the 100-yard butterfly (55.34). Teammate Toya Andersson followed Foster in the 200 free with a second-place 1:53.46.
Ondrej Dusa, a recent Lindenwood transfer, secured second in the men's 200-yard freestyle (1:40.44). The women swept the top four spots in the 100-yard backstroke, with Maren Patterson (56.48), Haley Ross (56.96), Kayla Schmelzer (57.54), and Daryna Maznytska (57.95). Andreas Marz won the men's 100 back with 49.24, and Patterson took another win in the women's 100-yard freestyle (51.74).
Annika Huber delivered victories in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.69) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.66), while Noah Beladi won the men's 100 breast with 56.00. Abigail Zboran finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with 2:01.88.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Ryley Heck (23.31) and Matej Dusa (20.45) secured wins. On the men's side, Dusa was followed by teammates Levy, Meszaros, Wang, and Henschel, taking second through fifth. Ross and Marz claimed wins in the 200-yard backstroke, posting 2:00.76 and 1:48.71, respectively.
Declan Gleason won the men's 200-yard breaststroke with 2:01.49, while Przewalla and Beladi took second and third. Bailey secured first in the women's 500-yard freestyle with a 5:02.91, finishing over two seconds ahead of the runner-up. Conner Wang won the men's 100-yard butterfly (47.97), and Zboran and Beladi each claimed victories in the 200 IM events.
The Royals capped the meet with wins in the 400-yard freestyle relays. The women touched in 3:27.07 (Kupcova, Patterson, Heck, Zboran), and the men finished with 2:59.75 (Meszaros, Wang, Levy, M. Dusa).
