Riley Cheek and Nick Brassington Spotlight CSC Academic All-America Teams

AUSTIN, TX. – Queens University of Charlotte baseball standouts Riley Cheek and Nick Brassington capped off their careers with College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team honors, as officially announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon. The pair landed third-team honors after holding a 4.0-grade point average in their final season.

"I'm really proud of Riley and Nick for being named CSC Third Team Academic All-America," said head coach Ross Steedley. "Awards and accolades like these are earned through a lot of hard work, commitment, and dedication, and Riley and Nick deserve this honor. They have been highly successful on the field the last three years and this type of award speaks to their success off the field as well. They represent Queens the right way."

The Royals were one of four programs in the country to land more than one player on the list. Georgia Tech and Stanford led all teams with three student-athletes listed while Queens and Oregon State put a pair on the list.

For Brassington, the honor marks the second straight year he has been named a CSC Third Team Academic All-American. The ASUN Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Riley Cheek earned the All-American recognition for the first time.

Jake Gelof from the University of Virginia, Alex Epp from William Jewell College, Tyler Horvat of Washington and Jefferson College, and Eric Maffie from the University of St. Francis (Ill.) are the All-America of the Year honorees for NCAA Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, and the NAIA, respectively.

The Division 1 team is comprised of 35 student-athletes with a 3.80 average GPA, including a 3.83 GPA from the first team. Five of the 10 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA were named first-team honorees.
