Nick Brassington and Riley Cheek Garner D2CCA All-Region Honors

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. – The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team had a pair of Royals represented on the 2022 Division II CCA All-Southeast Region team, as announced by the association Wednesday afternoon. Nick Brassington received first team praise as an outfielder while Riley Cheek landed second team honors as a utility non-pitcher. The duo become the second and third Royals to receive D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors after Tanner Jacobson received second team utility praise in 2019.

Senior Nick Brassington hauled in another postseason honor after being named First Team All-Conference at the end of the season. The Raleigh, N.C. native posted a .370 batting average which was top 10 in the South Atlantic Conference. Additionally, the veteran leader blasted a conference-best 16 home runs while setting the program's new single season and career home run records. The two-time Conference Player of the Week led the league during the regular season in extra base hits, was second in the conference in hits, second in slugging percentage, and was third in RBI's. Brassington becomes the first Royal in program history to receive first team D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors.

Fellow Royal Riley Cheek garnered Second Team praise for a season in which he hit .330 across 51 starts between first base and designated hitter. The junior slugged .565 with a team-best .435 on-base percentage. Cheek recorded 16 doubles, 11 home runs, and 42 RBI's. The utility asset ranked top 10 in the league in runs, hits, and extra base hits. Cheek set a new single game record by blasting three home runs and seven RBI's in the senior day victory over Anderson.

Wingate's Brody McCullough was named Pitcher of the Year while Newberry's Braylin Marine was awarded Player of the Year. The South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas each had 13 honorees, while the Peach Belt Conference had seven. Sixteen student-athletes from eight different schools earned All-Southeast Region First Team distinction.

The first team selections will move on to the All-America ballot. The D2CCA All-America programs honor student-athletes in Division II athletic programs. The mission of the CCA is to encourage and promote Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.

The voting, nomination and calculations are all conducted by the school's sports information directors. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association. A full list of the teams can be found below.
