Royals Look to Sweep Coker In Regular Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (6-11, 5-11 SAC) is set to battle Coker University (4-16, 3-15 SAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. This will be the second meeting between the Royals and the Cobras this season, as Queens looks to compete the series sweep.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Royals traveled to Salisbury, N.C.,  last Wednesday night to take on No. 17 Catawba College. They would fall by a score of 99-73 to the Indians.
 
Kalaya Hall led all players on the floor with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting. She also finished 6-of-7 from the foul line and had six assists and three rebounds. Jori Wilks added a career-high 20 points and six rebounds in her first collegiate start while Kristy Hamze added 10 points. Malea Garrison chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds and Kennedy Fuller totaled nine points and six rebounds.

 
ABOUT THE ROYALS
-Queens is currently led by Hall who is averaging 20.5 points per game this season. She ranks second in the league in points per game and has recorded double figures in scoring in 14 games so far this season for the Royals. This season, Hall scored 43 points at Limestone to set a new single-game record and career-high. She also scored 41 points against Anderson University.

-Hamze is averaging 12.2 points per game, while Taylor Stevens ranks first in the league with 4.6 assists per game. Stevens has recorded four or more assists in 12 games this season. Freshman Malea Garrison leads under the glass averaging 6.4 rebounds per game.
 
-Queens is averaging around 64.1 points per games, improving from last season where they averaged 60.7.

-The Royals opened their season with a win over Emory & Henry. It is the first time that Queens has kicked off their season in the win column since 2015. Three of their games have been against nationally-ranked opponents since the.
 
-Head Coach Jen Brown is in her second season leading the Royals. Queens is in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners this season.

ABOUT THE COBRAS
- The Coker Cobras currently are on a six-game losing streak. In their last matchup against UVA Wise, the Cobras fell to the Cavs by a score 79-63. Saquita Joyner led the way with 15 points while Dasia Lambert finished with 12 points and Abigail Keesling added 10.   

- The Cobras are led by Joyner who is averaging 12.7 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the floor and also grabbing 7.5 boards per game. Keesling and and Ahlea Myers are adding 7.5 points apiece.
 
 
SERIES HISTORY
- Wednesday marks the 52nd meeting between the Cobras and the Royals, with Queens is leading the series 27-24.
 
-The conference opponents first met on Nov. 21, 1990 with the Cobras winning, 67-64. Queens' recorded a niine-game winning streak against Coker between Jan. 19, 2008 and Jan. 18, 2012.
 
- In their last meeting the Royals defeated Coker, 49-46. Hall led the Royals with 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting. Stevens was key as well with a stat line of eight points seven rebounds, and two steals. Kiana Barkhoff completed play with six points, seven rebounds, four steals, and five blocks while Hamze provided valuable minutes for the Royals, scoring nine points and grabbing four rebounds. Finley Levers secured six boards and Amari Davis chipped in with six points and five rebounds.
