CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (6-11, 5-11 SAC) will be on the road at No. 20 Catawba College (16-2, 13-2 SAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. This will be the second meeting between the Royals and the Indians this season.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Royals battled hard inside Curry Arena but fell short in the end to Lenoir-Rhyne University on Monday night by a score of 78-68.

Kalaya Hall finished play with 25 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two blocks while
Kristy Hamze added 19 points and two steals. In her starting debut, freshman guard
Kennedy Fuller chipped in eight points, three rebounds, and two steals. A trio of Royals led under the glass as
Malea Garrison,
Finley Lefevers, and
Jori Wilks each had six boards.
ABOUT THE ROYALS
-Queens is currently led by Hall who is averaging 20.5 points per game this season. She ranks second in the league in points per game and has recorded double figures in scoring in 14 games so far this season for the Royals. This season, Hall scored 43 points at Limestone to set a new single-game record and career-high. She also scored 41 points against Anderson University.
-Hamze is averaging 12.2 points per game, while
Taylor Stevens ranks first in the league with 4.6 assists per game. Stevens has recorded four or more assists in 12 games this season. Freshman
Malea Garrison leads under the glass averaging 6.4 rebounds per game.
-Queens is averaging around 64.1 points per games, improving from last season where they averaged 60.7.
-The Royals opened their season with a win over Emory & Henry. It is the first time that Queens has kicked off their season in the win column since 2015. Two of their opponents since then have been nationally ranked.
-Head Coach
Jen Brown is in her second season leading the Royals. Queens is in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners this season.
ABOUT THE INDIANS
- The Catawba Indians rank second in the SAC and No. 17 in the WBCA National Poll. They are currently on a four-game winning streak after defeating Limestone University, 73-50.
- The Indians have four players averaging double-figures in points. Leading the way is Lyrik Thorne who averages 12.6 points, 2.2 assists, and 2.2 steals per games. Sara McIntosh is scoring 12 points per game while Janiya Downs is chipping in 11.2 points,6.2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. Taisha DeShazo is averaging 10.1 points per game. Lastly, Shemya Stanack is leading on the boards grabbing 7.6 rebounds per agme while scoring 9.7 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- Wednesday marks the 34
th meeting between the Indians and the Royals. The first meeting came Dec. 12, 1991, where the Royals defeated the Indians 86-75. Catawba is leading the series 29-4.
-In their last meeting on Nov. 17, 2021, the Indians defeated the Royals 70-57. The Royals were led by Hall who had 25 points after shooting 8-of-13 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Garrison secured seven rebounds coming off the bench.
