Royals to Face UVA Wise on the Road

CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (4-7, 3-8 SAC) will travel to Wise, Va., for a South Atlantic Conference showdown against the UVA Wise Cavs (4-11, 4-8 SAC) on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 pm inside the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
 
 LAST TIME OUT
- Junior guard Kalaya Hall poured in 41 points to set a new program single-game record on Wednesday night as the Royals fell to Anderson University (9-7, 9-3 SAC) by a score of 102-80 inside Curry Arena. 
 
-  Hall was an impressive 14-of-24 on the night connecting on 6-of-11 from deep and a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. She broke a record that was set by Queens Hall of Famer Sequoya Friday who scored 40 points against Lees-McRae on Jan. 7, 1998. Hall's point total was also a new career high.
 
- Additionally, Finley Lefevers finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while Taylor Stevens continued to fill up the stat sheet tallying 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Malea Garrison chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.
 
ABOUT THE ROYALS
-Queens is currently led by Hall who is averaging 18.1 points per game this season to rank fourth in the conference in the category. Additionally, Kristy Hamze is averaging 11.1points per game. Kiana Barkhoff tops the nation, league, and Royals with 3.8 blocks per game. Her season total of 42 blocks ranks fifth nationally. Barkhoff is also averaging 7.7 rebounds per game, while Stevens ranks first in the league with 4.4 assists per game.

-The Royals opened their season with a win over Emory & Henry. It is the first time that Queens has kicked off their season in the win column since 2015. Two of their opponents since then have been nationally ranked.
 
-Head Coach Jen Brown is in her second season leading the Royals. Queens enters the year in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners.

ABOUT THE CAVS
-In their last matchup against Lenoir-Rhyne the Cavs defeated the Bears in a nail bitter 72-70. Senior Meg Crawford scored a season-high 20 points while tying a career-best 10 made field goals. Nia Vanzant added 15 points and five boards, while Katlin Burger chipped in 12 points and three rebounds.
 
-Vanzant leads the Cavs averaging 15.7 points and 5.3 boards per game while Kalee Johnson is contributing 12.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Crawford is adding 10.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Caitlyn Ross is averaging 9.7 points.

SERIES HISTORY
- UVA Wise leads the series with the Royals, 3-0. The Royals fell 85-63 to the Cavs on Feb. 27, 2021 in their last meeting. Hall finished the game with 12 points and three assists, while Amari Davis added six points and eight rebounds. 
 
-Queens looks to get their first win of the series on Saturday.
