Royals Look to Even Series With Anderson

CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (4-7, 3-7 SAC) will be back inside Curry Arena taking on the Anderson University Trojans (8-7, 8-3 SAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. This is the second meeting this season for the two squads.
 
 LAST TIME OUT
-The Royals improved to 4-7 on the season after defeating Newberry College, by a score of 75-58. The 17-point win marks the largest margin of victory for Queens in the past two seasons.

- Freshman forward Finley Lefevers led the Royals with a career-high 16 points while also totaling seven rebounds. Kalaya Hall added 15 points and six rebounds and Kristy Hamze totaled 13 points. Taylor Stevens tallied 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and five steals while Kiana Barkhoff recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five blocks. Malea Garrison also totaled 10 rebounds.
 
ABOUT THE ROYALS
-Queens is currently led by Hall who is averaging 16 points per game this season. Additionally, Kristy Hamze is averaging 11.7 points per game. Kiana Barkhoff tops the nation, league, and Royals with 3.8 blocks per game. Her season total of 42 blocks ranks fourth nationally. Barkhoff is also averaging 7.7 rebounds per game, while Stevens ranks second in the league with 4.2 assists per game.

-The Royals opened their season with a win over Emory & Henry. It is the first time that Queens has kicked off their season in the win column since 2015. Two of their opponents since then have been nationally ranked.
 
-Head Coach Jen Brown is in her second season leading the Royals. Queens enters the year in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners.

-Queens is returning to competition tomorrow after having the weekend off. Their game with Limestone originally planed for Saturday, Jan.8 was postponed due to COVID protocol.

ABOUT THE TROJANS
-In their last matchup with Carson-Newman, the Trojans fell 67-64 to the Eagles. Shameka McNiell scored a game-high 23 points, while transfer junior Brittney Stafford netted 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Trojans. Britney Bailey chipped in 12 points and seven boards.

-The Trojans offensive power comes from McNiell and Stafford who are each averaging a little over 20 points per game. McNiell tops the league in points per game at 20.3. Diamond McDowell (9.1 ppg), Bailey(8.5 ppg) , and Taylor Hair (8.3 ppg) are also contributing to the success of the Trojans' offense.

SERIES HISTORY
- Anderson leads the series with the Royals, 35-8. The Royals fell 69-53 to Anderson on Nov. 23, 2021 in Anderson, S.C. Hall led the Royals finishing with 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while Stevens added 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Hamze added nine points and Mikayla Sink chipped in with seven. Barkhoff grabbed six rebounds. 

-Queens looks to snap a 15-game losing streak to the Trojans. Their last win came on Mar. 1, 2014 when they defeated Anderson 68-57.
