CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After being voted the top-seed heading into the NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse National Semifinals tomorrow, the Royals are set to take on fourth-seeded East Stroudsburg University. Friday's game is scheduled to take place in Salem, Virginia at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on the campus of Roanoke College. Having advanced during the 2019 season as well, this will be the Royals' second straight appearance in the national semifinals.
The Royals (13-1), who are ranked fifth nationally, advanced to Friday's round after defeating 13
th-ranked Limestone University for the third time this season in the quarterfinals. The South Region Championship win was the second in a row for Queens as they downed the Saints in convincing fashion, 14-4. In the win,
Shannon Donovan and
Rachel Perrett each scored four goals as
Kara Blanchard completed a hat trick and added an assist for four points in the contest.
Kyleigh Masteran wrapped up her own hat trick late in the fourth quarter from a
Carson Giordano dime while
Ally Blood finished with three assists and
Sydney Bracken totaled two assists.
The Warriors (12-3) are currently ranked ninth nationally. Despite falling to West Chester three times this season, East Stroudsburg was able to top the fourth-ranked Golden Rams in the quarterfinals for the Atlantic Region Championship title. The Warriors defeated West Chester by a score of 13-9 with Emily Mitarotonda recording five points on three goals and two assists. Shannon Dent also totaled three goals while Gianna Leduc registered three points on two goals and an assist.
This season, the Royals are led by a trio of attackers in Blanchard, Blood, and Perrett. Blanchard has 74 points on 42 goals and 32 assists while Blood has 70 points on 25 goals and 45 assists. Perrett leads in goals with 46 on the season. She also has 19 assists to total 65 points and leads the Royals in draw controls with 66. Additionally,
Kyleigh Masteran has 42 points while
Shannon Donovan and
Sydney Bracken have 34 and 30 points, respectively. In goal,
Sara Mitrecic is 10-1 with a 45.9 save percentage and a 7.81 goals against average.
Hana Cicerelle leads East Stroudsburg with 59 points on 43 goals and 16 assists. Mitarotonda has 53 points on 42 goals and 11 assists while LeDuc has 47 points on 28 goals and 19 assists. Additionally, Shannon Dent and Brielle Curtis have 36 and 32 points, respectively. In goal, Tatyana Petteway is 12-3 with a 55.3 save percentage and a 7.65 goals against average.
The Royals and the Warriors have met just once previously with East Stroudsburg earning the overtime win, 14-13, in 2010.
In Queens' last national semifinal appearance in 2019, the Royals fell 10-9 to West Chester. Perrett led Queens in the game with a hat trick and one assist for four points while Blanchard added four points on three assists and one goal.
The NCAA will be operating this weekend's events at 50 percent capacity due to local and state guidelines which will allow for 500 fans. Tickets will be sold at the gate. Fully vaccinated individuals at NCAA Championships are not required to wear masks at outdoor championships. The NCAA encourages those who are not vaccinated to wear a mask. Masks are always required indoors at the championships by everyone.
