Royals Record Five NCAA DII Provisional Marks at Bast Cregger Invite

SALEM, Va./WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's track and field programs continued their opening weekend of the indoor season today with multi athletes finishing up the heptathlon at the Bast Cregger Invite hosted by Roanoke and members of the women's team competing at the Winston-Salem Kick-Off Classic.
 
Highlighting the day was Queens' multi-group from the men's squad recording five NCAA DII Provisional marks in the heptathlon at the Bast Cregger Invite. Freshman Simon Rey took the top spot totaling a score of 5,252, while Niklas Klei finished third with 5,121 points. Stefan Jungmichel totaled 5,070 points for fourth place and Gabriele Brandi finished with 4,773 points for sixth place. Florian Daireaux was the fifth to record a provisional mark with 4,756 points for seventh place while Teodor Sobczyk took eighth place with a score of 4,619.
 
Rey's score was not just good enough for first place, but it also set a new program record in the event at Queens. He recorded a time of 7.30 seconds in the 60-meter dash for 779 points before securing 755 points in the long jump with a mark of 13.66 meters (22-1.75). Rey then recorded a toss of 13.66 meters (44-9.75) for 708 points in the shot put and scored 644 points in the high jump with a mark of 1.82 meters (5-11.5). Through the first four events, he sat in third with 2,886 points. Today he recorded a time of 8.57 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles for 843 points and a mark of 4.48 meters (14-8.25) in the pole vault for 754 points before closing with a 1,000-meter run completed in 2:49.64 for 769 points.
 
Jungmichel and Klei each recorded personal records in the event with their scores.
 
At the Winston-Salem Kick-Off Classic, the Royals saw some strong performances from a number of freshman women on the track. In the 3,000-meter run, Stina Pettersson finished second with a time of 10:26.62 while Sarah Watts took fourth in 10:31.31. Chloe Widmann and Madelyne Zarzyski also ran in the race taking 13th and 16th place, respectively.
 
In the mile run, Evie Wild took third in a time of 5:17.60. Carlin McFadden followed in ninth place with a time of 5:37.21.
 
Off the track, Christina Palmer competed in both the shot put and weight throw. She took 12th in the shot put with a mark of 11.70 meters and recorded a personal record in the weight throw (11.71m).
 
Queens' men will complete competition at the Winston-Salem Kick-Off Classic at JDL Fast Track tomorrow. The men and women will return to competition on Jan. 15 at the Gamecock Opener following the winter break.
