Royals Fall at Home to Lincoln Memorial

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team fell to Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday afternoon, 59-47 inside Curry Arena. The loss pushes the Royals to 3-7 overall and 2-7 in South Atlantic Conference action while the Railsplitters improved to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in league action.

The Royals were slow to open the afternoon as the Railsplitters cashed in on four deep balls taking a commanding 12-0 lead early. Kalaya Hall would get the Royals on the board first after grabbing an offensive rebound and recording the put back with 4:07 remaining in the opening quarter. Later in the first, Malea Garrison absorbed the contact and made a jumper for an and-one opportunity and made the free throw. The three-point play capped off a Royals 7-2 run to end the quarter.

The scoring would slow in the second as the conference foes would amp up their defensive pressure. The Royals closed the half on a 5-0 run which was capped off by a Jori Wilks buzzer beater shot from behind the arc. Queens maintained a plan and executed in the paint outscoring the Railsplitters 16-6 down low in the opener and trailed 25-20 going into the half.

The second half opened with the Royals flying around the court and continuing to attack the bucket. Queens recorded back-to-back buckets before the Railsplitters answered with a deep ball. Kalaya Hall would respond with an and-one and sunk the free throw to close the deficit to one. The Railsplitters would not allow the Royals to close the gap any further as they expanded their lead to 46-31 heading into the fourth.

The Royals struggled to find their rhythm on offense in the final quarter as Lincoln Memorial would open their lead and grab the road victory. Kalaya Hall would lead all Royals scorers on the afternoon with 14 points. For the ninth time this season, Hall has reached double figures in scoring as she sits at seventh in the conference in points per game with 16.3. Taylor Stevens posted seven points while adding four rebounds for the Royals. Jori Wilks provided valuable minutes off the bench for the Royals and recorded a season-high 13 points.

Queens will now take a week off for the holidays before returning to the court at Lander University on Dec. 30th for one final contest before the new year. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Finis Horn Arena and fans can follow the action on the Bearcat Broadcasting Network.
