CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (2-5, 1-5 SAC) will look to grab another win on Saturday, Dec. 11 at home where they will take on the Coker University Cobras (3-5, 2-4 SAC) inside Curry Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
-The Royals suffered a 65-57 loss on the road to the Newberry College Wolves in their midweek game on Wednesday, Dec. 8..
- Queens'
Kristy Hamze led all on the court with 17 points after connecting on 8-of-9 from the foul line.
Kalaya Hall finished with nine points and four rebounds while
Kiana Barkhoff led the way under the glass with seven boards and a career-high nine blocks. Freshman forward
Finley Lefevers had a career-high eight points shooting 4-of-6 from the field.
ABOUT THE ROYALS
-Queens is currently led by Hall who is averaging 16.7 points per game this season. She also ranks fourth currently in the SAC in points per game. Additionally, Hamze is averaging 12.1 points per game. Barkhoff tops the league and the Royals with 3.6 blocks per game and has a total of 25 so far this season. Barkhoff is also averaging 6.4 rebounds per game, while
Taylor Stevens tops the league with 4.9 assists per game.
-The Royals opened their season with a win over Emory & Henry. It is the first time that Queens has kicked off their season in the win column since 2015. Two of their opponents since then have been nationally ranked.
-Head Coach
Jen Brown is in her second season leading the Royals. Queens enters the year in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners.
ABOUT THE COBRAS
-Coker currently sits 3-5 on the year and 2-4 in league action. In their last matchup against Anderson (S.C.), the Cobras suffered an 81-61 loss on the road.
-Saquita Joyner leads the Cobras averaging 13.5 points and 8.6 rebounds, while Ahlea Myers averages 8.4 points. Dasia Lambert is recording 6.6 points per game and Hope Richardson is second on the team in rebounds grabbing 6.8 boards per game.
SERIES HISTORY
-Queens leads the series with the Cobras, 26-24. Most recently, the Royals suffered a 69-61 loss to Coker on Feb. 2, 2021. Hall led the Royals with 20 points and two assists while
Amari Davis finished with a double-double after totaling16 points and 11 rebounds.
Christina Deng chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
-Queens looks to snap a two-game losing streak to the Cobras. Their last win came on Feb. 5, 2020 when they defeated Coker at home, 65-58.
