CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team (7-11, 5-7) has been seeded sixth in the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey Championship and will face third-seeded Belmont Abbey College (10-7, 6-6) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Tomorrow's match will be the 15
th meeting between the Royals and the Crusaders. Queens leads the series, 8-6, despite this season's record with Belmont Abbey sitting at 2-1. The teams split the regular-season home-and-home series before Queens fell in a final non-conference match by a score of 1-0 on Oct. 28.
Both teams enter the match coming off losses as the Royals fell on Saturday, Oct. 30 to Frostburg State by a score of 5-3 and the Crusaders fell in overtime to Coker by a score of 3-2.
Queens is led by
Gabe Lechner who has 28 points this season on 11 goals and six assists.
Victoria Tredinnick follows with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Both have three game-winning goals this season.
Gianna Conti leads the Crusaders this season with 23 points on 11 goals and one assist while Casey Etter has 21 points on nine goals and three assists.
Both Conti and Lechner rank second in the league in goals while Lechner also ranks third in total points.
The Royals and the Crusaders have faced off twice in the conference tournament in previous seasons with the Royals coming out on top both times.
Tomorrow's quarterfinal match will take place in Clover, S.C., at a neutral site. Match time is set for 2 p.m. The winner will advance to face second-seeded Limestone in the semifinals being held at top-seeded Converse University.
