Highlights

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
– The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team has announced the signing of Malcom Stevenson to its roster for the 2020-2021 season. Stevenson, a 6-4 guard from Orlando, Florida, will enroll at Queens as a junior in the upcoming fall semester after transferring from Polk State College.

In his sophomore season at Polk State, Stevenson averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line. Stevenson helped lead Polk State to a 21-10 record, the program's most wins since the 2015-2016 season. The Eagles reached the No. 18 national ranking while upsetting the top-ranked and fourth-ranked teams in the country.

Stevenson's performance earned him the No. 46 overall ranking among junior college prospects, according to jucorecruiting.com. He is the only top-50 player to sign with a Division II program in the last five years.

Previously, Stevenson spent the 2016-2017 season at Cabrillo College in California where he averaged 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, while shooting 50.8 percent from the floor and 30 percent from 3-point range.

"When you assess the story behind Malcolm, you couldn't be more proud that he has made it to the next chapter in his life," said Brandon Giles, Stevenson's coach at Polk State. "Malcolm will make the Queens community unbelievably proud. Everyone who comes in contact with him will love how engaging and personable he is. Besides his character he is a special talent on the floor who will be huge piece to the success of the Queens program for two years to come."

Queens enters the 2020-2021 campaign after finishing 24-7 overall in 2019-2020, winning 10 of its final 11 games. The Royals capped the year with a fifth-straight top-25 finish in both major national polls, earning the No. 15 ranking in the final media poll and the No. 23 ranking in the final coaches' poll. Queens claimed the No. 2 seed in the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This past season marked the program's fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and the 13th overall.

The Royals return two starters and five letter winners from last year's team. Stevenson joins Kalib Mathews as the second member of the 2020 recruiting class.

"Malcolm has overcome so many obstacles in his journey here that have made him a phenomenal person, an elite player and his journey tells a great story," said Royals head coach Bart Lundy. "His personality and athletic ability will make him a crowd favorite in Charlotte for his two years at Queens. What makes him an elite player is his ability to make others around him better and his passing will be equally as special as his scoring. We couldn't be prouder to have Malcolm join our family."
