ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the fourth consecutive season, the Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team is advancing to the South Atlantic Conference Championship Finals. The 19
th-ranked Royals shutout No. 21 Lenoir-Rhyne University 4-0 on Thursday morning in a quarterfinal matchup from the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
Queens started strong, earning the first point of the day with back-to-back doubles wins. The duo of
Sebastian Meum and
Kasper Rolfsen opened the match with a 6-4 win in the third flight, followed by a 7-6 win by the 44
th-ranked tandem of
Agustin Aran Martin and
Julian Bosch.
Junior
Joel Dunlap kicked off singles competition with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth flight to push the Royals ahead by two points before Bosch finished off a 7-5, 6-4 win in the second flight to move Queens one point closer to ending the match.
Aran Martin, ranked No. 39 in the latest Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings, closed out the match with a 7-6, 6-4 triumph in the top position to secure the shutout for Queens.
Queens will square off against No. 9 Wingate University in Saturday's championship final at 9 a.m. It will be the third straight season that the Royals and Bulldogs face each other with the tournament title on the line.
