PITTSBURG, Kan.  –  Felix Wammetsberger walked away the NCAA DII Men's Indoor Track & Field Mile Champion and the Queens University of Charlotte men's indoor track & field team totaled 20 points to finish 13^th overall at the 2019 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships. The team finish is the highest for the Royals in program history who entered the meet ranked 24^th in the nation. It is also the most points that the team has earned at the Championships since the 2011 season when the Royals totaled 15 points and finished 18^th.
 
Wammetsberger and Daniel Wallis entered this evening's mile final with the seventh and ninth fastest times recorded in the country this season. After hanging around the middle of the pack for the first half of the race, they both turned up their speed to race past their opponents into the front of the pack. Wallis struck first before Wammetsberger followed. The runners were then able to work together to block out Elias Gedyon of Adams State who had the fastest time in the mile this season at 4:00.75. Though it appeared they crossed the finish line together, Wammetsberger would record a time of 4:11.18 beating Wallis' time of 4:11.20 by just a hair. Both runners earned all-American honors.
 
Wammetsberger is the eighth track & field athlete to win a national championship. He is the first to win one in the mile and the first men's track & field athlete to win once since the 2009 season.
 
Seb Anthony raced in the men's 800-meter final entering the race with the 10^th fastest time in the country at 1:50.40. He would finish eighth in the race in a time of 1:57.67 to earn all-American honors.
 
Thrower Gabby Schultz competed in the women's shot put having advanced to the Championships with the 18^th best mark this season at 14.70-meters. She finished in 20^th place with a mark of 12.69-meters.
 
Thrower Martin Knauer competed in the men's shot put after recording the 20^th best mark in the event this season at 17.57-meters. Knauer finished in 14^th place with a mark of 16.92-meters.
 
The Royals ended the night with Wallis racing in the men's 3,000-meter run. Entering the race with the 11^th best time in the country at the DII level, 8:11.86, Wallis clocked a time of 8:18.34 for eighth place. He also earned all-American honors for his performance.
 
Ashland's men won the team championship title after totaling 38 points while Adams State's women won with a total of 87 points.
 
Queens will begin its outdoor season at the Charlotte 49er Classic March 14-16.
