Royals Host George Mason to Begin 2019 Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Friday, January 4, the Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team will kick off the 2019 campaign by hosting the Patriots of George Mason University inside Curry Arena at 7 p.m.
 
Tonight is the first ever meeting between Queens and George Mason and begins a five-game homestead to open the season for the Royals. Admission to the match will be free for all who attend.

-As a team, Queens finished #2 in the NCAA last season with 10.28 digs per set and ranked fifth overall in holding opponents to a .209 hitting percentage. Sophomore Conner Nagaki was sixth in the nation with 2.75 digs per set, while fellow sophomore Aleksandar Perisic was 10th with 1.12 blocks per set.
 
-The Royals return five of six primary starts from last year's team and seven players who saw action in at least 65 sets.
 
-Queens has eight newcomers to this year's squad, including three transfers and six true freshmen. Senior Alexander Schinzing (North Greenville University), Josh Bragg and JP Payne (Erskine College) all come to Charlotte after seeing significant time on the court at their previous programs.

-The Patriots compete in the EIVA and were selected to finish third in the league's preseason coaches' poll. George Mason finished last season 17-12 overall, including a 13-1 conference record and an EIVA Regular Season Championship.
 
-George Mason was among the national leaders as a team with 12.32 kills per set and a .270 hitting percentage a year ago.
 
-The Patriots return AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honoree Hayden Wagner who was among the nation's top opposites with 306 kills and 3.48 kills per set.
