Meum Finishes Off Comeback in Singles Play for No. 15 Queens as Royals Advance to SAC Finals

COLUMBIA, S.C.– The 15th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team won the final three singles matches en route to completing a comeback win over No. 24 Newberry College by a score of 5-4 in the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Championship Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis Center.

The Wolves led 2-1 after the conclusion of doubles play with Queens' lone point coming via an 8-4 win at No. 3 by the sophomore duo of Agustin Aran Martin and Sebastian Meum.

In singles play, sophomore Joel Dunlap opened with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 to even the match score before Newberry collected back-to-back wins at No. 1 and No. 5 to get within one point of the upset.

However, the Royals responded as they have all season and never gave up. Sophomore Julian Bosch began the comeback with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2, followed by a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 by Aran Martin who is the nation's 58th-ranked men's singles player. Aran Martin's singles win streak moved to 11 straight with the victory.

At No. 4, Meum won the first set 6-2 and was on the ropes in the second set before securing a 7-6 (6-4) win in a tiebreaker to send Queens to the championship contest. The match win improved the Royals win streak to 10 in a row.

"I have a lot of confidence in this group of guys. They are competitors," said Head Coach Billy Boykin. "When were down after doubles play and even when we were down 4-2, I still had confidence in this team. We've been in so many tight matches this year and have play through so many injuries. This group doesn't quit. I am really proud of them."

Queens will look to secure it's third SAC Championship title in a row tomorrow when it takes on second seed and 10th-ranked Wingate University at 12 p.m.
