CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second straight match and fifth time overall this season, the No. 38 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 win over South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba College on Tuesday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex.
The freshman duo of
Yana Fleyer and
Sasha Davidzenka got the day started with an 8-1 win in the No. 2 double position, followed by an 8-1 win at No. 3 from the tandem of senior
Caroline Nielsen and junior
Hannah Lehfeldt. The team of senior
Carlotta Nassi and sophomore
Isabel Fornies won 8-2 playing at No. 1 for the second consecutive match to put Queens ahead 3-0.
Fornies made quick work of her opponent in the No. 6 singles slot, winning 6-1, 6-0, before Lehfeldt sealed the match win for the Royals with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 5.
Davidzenka (6-2, 6-2) and Nielsen (6-0, 6-1) also needed just two sets to win at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively, while Fleyer improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season with a 6-3, 6-1 decision in the No. 2 position.
Nassi collected the team's final point, winning 6-1 in the first set before her opponent was forced to retire during a second set tiebreaker with the senior ahead 3-1.
Queens' three-match homestand continues on Thursday, March 29, when the team hosts Coker College at 2 p.m.
