CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The third-seeded Queens University of Charlotte Royals will compete for the first-ever South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey Championship title on Sunday, November 18 in Gaffney, South Carolina, facing top-seeded Limestone College on the Saints' home field.
The Royals advanced to the title match after edging Belmont Abbey, 1-0, in the semifinal round on Friday. Junior forward
Hanna Nechay scored the game winner with no time left on the clock after receiving a pass from freshman midfielder
Molly Walter.
Similarly, Limestone advanced winning 1-0 over Coker in the semifinals. Kate Remley scored the game-winning goal in the 41
st minute to help the Saints avenge a late regular season loss to the Cobras.
Queens fell twice to the Saints during the regular season losing 6-1 on the road and 9-6 at home. The 9-6 home loss was a back and forth affair as the Royals led by as many as three goals before the Saints came back to take the win.
Mazvita Mtisi recorded a career-high eight points on three goals and two assists in the loss.
Mtisi leads Queens this season with 14 goals and five assists for 33 points while South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year follows with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Nechay has 14 points and
Jill Sherman,
Millie Eaton-Jones and
Renee Smith each have 12 points.
South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year Kelly Diplock leads Limestone's offense with 44 points on 16 goals and 12 assists. Remley follows with 33 points on 14 goals and five assists and Thando Muchemenyi has 21 points on the year.
