CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The stranglehold on first place in the South Atlantic Conference will remain as Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis took care of business in an 8-1 win over visiting Tusculum College on Saturday, April 1.
"This was a good team win for us today," said Queens head coach
Billy Boykin. "We have a lot of respect for Tusculum's program. I thought we competed well at every single spot. I'm proud of our effort today."
The Royals (10-1, 8-0) showed their strength early as they ran roughshod over the Pioneers (10-7, 5-3) in doubles play. The No. 1 team of
Paolo Bompieri and
Andor Vas and the No. 3 team of
Agustin Aran Martin and Joel Dunalp surrendered only one game combined. While the second flight pairing of
Sebastian Meum and
Will Roberson got a hard-fought 8-6 win over Tashique Kader and Yago Fernandez.
Queens kept the momentum going in singles as they were hardly challenged en route to the 8-1 victory.
In fact, the only close singles match was at the top flight were
Paolo Bompieri held off a ferocious challenge from Yago Fernandez. Bompieri and Fernandez went the distance in the 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 barn burner.
The two-match homestand is now over as the Royals head back on the road to Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, April 4.
