CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The nationally 50th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team bounced back with an 8-1 blowout of Catawba College on Wednesday, March 29 at Freedom Park.
Queens (7-3, 5-2) rebounded from back-to-back 5-4 road defeats with an outstanding homestand against Catawba (11-10, 2-8). Outside of a lone singles defeat, the Royals were dominant from start-to-finish.
First, QU got off to a fantastic start with a clean sweep in doubles action.
Carlotta Nassi and
Marta Gonzalez earned an 8-3 victory over Sophie Hirsch and Erisa Onchi in No. 1 doubles. Then the tandems of
Hannah Lehfeldt/
Claire Hamilton and
Melissa Laing/
Ana Bolson each won by the final of 8-1.
Once the match moved over to singles action, the Royals kept up the onslaught as Nassi won the top singles flight, 6-0, 6-4, and Laing took No. 3, 6-1, 6-2. Caroline Neilsen defeated CC's Olivia Wooldridge in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
With the match in hand,
Hannah Lehfeldt and
Isabel Fornies closed out the victory with 9-7 and 8-2 victories, correspondingly.
Queens is back home again this Saturday, April 1 as they host Tusculum College.
