Savannah, Ga.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team, eighth seed in the tournament, found a 5-4 win over the University of Mount Olive, ninth seed, on Friday, May 7, 2016. The Royals capped the victory with a third set win on the top singles flight from
Per-Erik Soler. Queens moves to 15-3 on the season while Mount Olive ends the year at 15-6.
Coming out of doubles play, Queens held a 2-1 lead with Soler and
Andor Vas taking an 8-4 score on court one.
Jules Athalis and
Ole-Jacob Meum rounded out play with an 8-5 score on court three to bring to the match into singles.
Queens found their fourth point in the match to take a 4-2 lead with wins from Athalis and Vas. However, Mount Olive bounced back with two courts to even the score with wins on courts four and five.
With one court left to play, Soler sat tied at a set a piece with Ogulcan Deniz. The two battled through the opening games but Soler launched out to take the third set at 6-3.
Queens will face Armstrong State at 2 p.m., for the next round of the regional tournament.
