Catawba, N.C.- With a 9-0 score, the Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis secured the win over the Indians of Catawba on Thursday, April 7, 2016. The win gave Queens a 9-2 overall record and a 7-1 South Atlantic Conference record while Catawba moved to 11-11 on the year and 2-8 in league play.
"I thought we rebounded very well today from a tough loss earlier in the week," said Head Coach
Billy Boykin. "We were solid up and down the line. These girls are a competitive group and we are still growing as a team."
Marta Gonzalez and
Melissa Laing tabbed the win in the number one spot as a doubles duo, taking the point 8-6.
Carlotta Nassi and
Caroline Nielsen secured the second flight with an 8-1 score while
Claire Hamilton and
Hannah Lehfeldt saw a similar result on court three.
All six singles courts found victories as Nassi continued her streak taking the top flight 6-2, 6-1 to remain undefeated on the year. Gonzalez battled through three sets to take the second court 6-7, 6-0, 10-7, as Laing topped the third court with an 8-1 score. Nielsen and Lehfeldt had mirror results as both took 6-1, 6-0 victories on the fourth and sixth courts, respectively.
Claire Hamilton would rally for a 9-7 score to round out the day on the fifth court.
Queens will host Carson-Newman on Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m.
