Charlotte, N.C.- The Queens University of the Charlotte men's tennis team found a 9-0 score against Coker College on Sunday, April 3, 2016. The team battled to take the match and move to an 8-1 overall record and remain undefeated in conference play at six games. Coker fell to a 5-9 overall record and a 3-3 record within the South Atlantic Conference.
The team started strong moving their way through doubles play.
Jules Athalis and
Giovanni Setti tab the first point of the day with an 8-2 score.
Jordan Owens and
Will Roberson completed their match on court three rallying to an 8-3 score while
Per-Erik Soler and
Andor Vas closed out the sweep to see the top flight to an 8-2 match.
Looking for the match point, Queens moved one step closer after Vas claimed court three with a 6-2, 6-4 score. Battling for the game point, Athalis saw three sets to clinch the match in favor of the Royals. He fought to go 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
In another back-and-forth matchup, Soler played through three sets to tab the win against William Marrafao. He saw two sets to a 7-6 score, dropping the first but taking the second before claiming the point with a 6-3 third set. Setti was the last of the Royals to see three complete sets of play. He found the win on court four against Simon Berbom to go 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Queens rounded out the day with Owens and
Zachary Williams topping their courts in one set. Williams found a win on court six against Felix Schweyer for an 8-3 win. Owens closed the day with an 8-6 victory against Henrik Hellbe.
The team will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Wingate for a 3 p.m., start time.
