Brevard, N.C- The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team found a 5-3 win on Thursday, April 21, 2016, to defeat the sixth seed of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, Coker College. The win moves the Royals to 12-3 overall as the team extends its season into the semifinal round of the tournament. Coker would end the year at 8-12.
The Cobras would tab the first win of the match with a victory on court three; however, Queens bounced back to take the remaining two courts.
Jules Athalis and
Giovanni Setti evened the match with an 8-6 win at court two against Tom Sizeland and Mark Watt. Moments later,
Per-Erik Soler and
Andor Vas found the go-a-head point with a 9-8 (7-1) battle on the No. 1 doubles court.
Heading into the singles lineup,
Ole-Jacob Meum added a point for the Royals as he quickly found his way to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 spot. Coker would respond with wins on court two and court three to make it a tied 3-3 match.
With three courts left to play, Queens' found some space with
Zachary Williams posting a 7-5, 6-2 score to move the team within reach of the match. Soler would be the one to clinch the win as he battled through three sets to defeat William Marrafao 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the top flight.
Queens will head back to the courts tomorrow to compete in the semifinal match against Wingate. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
