Scott Leads Royals to Victory over No. 17 Mount Olive

Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, ranked 14th in the nation, came back from behind to defeat No. 17 University of Mount Olive this afternoon in a nonconference game on the road. The win improves the Royals' overall record to 12-2 on the year, while the Trojans fall to 10-5 on the season.
 
Despite holding a 3-2 lead with 12:56 to play in the first half, Queens found themselves trailing the Trojans 5-3 at the break after Mount Olive closed the period with a three straight goals.
 
At the start of the second, the Trojans extended their lead to three, their largest of the game, with a goal from Riann Daziel. However, Queens' Hanna Scott would put an end to Mount Olives three-goal run with a goal for the Royals at 23:58, bringing the visitors back within two, 6-4. Mount Olive would find the back of the net next to increase their lead back out to three, 7-4, but it would be short lived as Scott found the back of the net for her third goal of the day to start a 3-0 run for Queens that would put them back on top.
 
Mount Olive wasn't finished yet though as Candace Corkin put the Trojans ahead once again, 8-7, with a goal at 7:57. Fortunately for Queens, Scott wasn't finished for the day either as she put two more points on the board for the Royals, leading them to a 9-8 victory.
 
The Royals outshot Mount Olive 20-18, putting 19 shots on goal. Queens also won the battle for ground balls 16-13, and totaled 12 draw controls to Mount Olive's six. Christine Wiese took the win in goal after recording six saves.
 
Scott finished with five goals to lead Queens, while also tallying an assists, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control. Shannon Mansberger finished with two goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Alexandra Bruder and Maggie Masters chipped in with one goal apiece.
 
Daziel totaled five goals to lead the Trojans. Hannah Knight totaled 10 saves in goal.
 
The Royals are back in action on Saturday, April 16 at Coker College. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
