Oliverio’s 21 Points Not Enough As Royals Fall To #15 Trojans

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (3-16, 1-13 SAC) held their own in the first half against the #15 Anderson Trojans (14-3, 12-2 SAC), but were unable to keep the momentum in the second half as they fell 73-53 in the Levine Center on Monday, February 1, 2016.
 
The Royals shot 38.9 percent from the floor and were able to make 5-of-13 three pointers in the game. Anderson outrebounded Queens 47-31 and took advantage of 14 Royals' turnovers, turning them into 15 points in the game.
 
McKell Oliverio was one point shy of a career-high as she scored 21 points in the game to go along with six rebounds. Carmen Richardson scored 11 points in the game and tallied a team high nine rebounds. Karlesha Thompson dished out seven assists in the game and added eight points for the Royals.
 
Anderson started the game on a 9-2 run as Jennifer Monroe made a layup with 6:25 on the clock in the first quarter. Queens immediately answered with a run of their own, this time a 10-2 run, to take their first lead of the game, 12-10 as Oliverio swished a three pointer. Both teams battled for the lead through the second quarter as Queens held an 18-17 lead with 8:18 left in the second quarter. Anderson would go on an 8-1 run to take a five point, 25-19 lead with 5:29 left until halftime. Queens worked their way into the Trojans lead going into the half as they would be down by only one point, 27-26 as time expired.
 
The Trojans came out of the half motivated as they climbed out to a ten point, 38-28 lead with 5:51 to play in the third quarter. Queens was able to cut the lead down to only seven points, 47-40, as Carmen Richardson hit a layup with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter. Anderson was able to take control of the game in the fourth quarter as their lead grew to as large as 20 points, which would be the final margin of the game as Anderson would win the game 73-53 over the Royals.
 
Anderson was led by Madison Floyd who scored 20 points in the game as she made five three pointers. Jennifer Monroe had a double double for the Trojans as she scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
 
The Royals will get to play their fourth home game in ten days as they play host to the Coker Cobras on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
