Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (2-9, 0-6 SAC) fell to the Catawba Indians (5-8, 2-5 SAC) in a South Atlantic Conference matchup on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016.
The Royals were paced by
Erin Brundage and
Victoria Robinson, who each scored 13 points for the Royals. Catawba outscored Queens 46-22 in the paint and scored 28 points off of turnovers.
The Royals got to work quickly as they built a 9-2 lead over the Indians in the first four minutes of the game. Karlesha Thompson accounted for four of those points during the run. Catawba battled back, going on an 8-0 run to take a 10-9 lead with 3:55 to play in the first quarter. Robinson closed out the quarter with a layup as time expired to tie the game at 17 points apiece.
The second quarter was just as competitive, as neither team could get ahold of a big lead. The largest lead of the second quarter would come with Catawba taking a four point lead, 26-22, with 5:22 remaining. That wouldn't sit well with the Royals as they went on a 7-0 run that included a three pointer made by
Erin Brundage to take a 29-26 lead. The teams would remain tied with just over a minute to play in the half until Catawba took a three point, 35-32, lead into the break.
Catawba came out tough to start the second half as they jumped out to a 43-36 lead following a Serna Brown layup with 7:36 remaining in the quarter. Queens worked to cut the lead down to three points, 43-40, with just over six minutes to play in the third quarter following a Robinson layup, but the Indians would end the quarter in strong fashion, taking a 59-46 lead into the intermission.
The Royals struggled to find their shot in the fourth quarter as the Catawba defense only allowed them to score five points in the period, propelling them to an 85-51 victory.
Terri Rodgers paced the Indians with 22 points in the game on 9-of-18 shooting from the field. She also added 13 rebounds, nine which came on the offensive end, in the game. Four other players would score double digits for Catawba in the game.
Queens returns to action on Saturday, January 9th as they travel to Harrogate, Tennessee to face off against Lincoln Memorial University with tip off slated for 2:00 p.m.
