Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (11-5) welcomed No. 4 Lindenwood University (13-1) to Dickson Field this evening for a women's lacrosse game falling 16-12 to the Lions.
After getting outscored 11-1 in the opening half of tonight's game, Queens would fight back in the second to score 11 goals to Lindenwood's five.
The Royals, ranked 13
th in the nation, were led by senior attacker
Jena Ready and junior midfielder
Brittany Larranaga. The pair notched three goals apiece in the loss as junior attacker
Maggie Masters added two goals and one assists.
Kelly Dowd chipped in with one goal and one assist.
Masters and Larranaga got Queens' offense going with back-to-back goals to start the second half. The pair of goals would help the Royals put together a 4-1 run to cut the Lions' lead to seven, 12-5, with 17:51 to play. Following another goal from Lindenwood, Queens put three more balls in the back of the net to trial by just five, 13-8, with 12:55 on the clock. Unfortunately, a 3-1 push by the Lions extending Lindenwood's lead back out to seven would be just enough to hold off Queens' comeback as time ticked off the clock. The Royals closed the night with three unanswered goals to give the game its final score.
The Royals outshot Lindenwood 31-23 putting 20 shots on goal. However, Queens lost the battle for ground balls, 20-13, and the battle for draw controls, 17-12.
Melissa Menchella led the Lions tonight with six goals and one assists. Allison Hurley added two goals and two assists, while Sophie Buelow scored two goals.
The Royals are back in action on Friday at Dickson Field in the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Championships.
